Chiefs Urge Supporters To Arrive Early As Sundowns Clash Promises A Full Day Of Entertainment

JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG — Kaizer Chiefs have urged supporters to arrive early at FNB Stadium on Saturday as the club prepares to host Mamelodi Sundowns in a highly anticipated Betway Premiership clash.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15h00, but Chiefs Digital Market Manager Kemiso Motaung wants supporters in their seats well before the match, with a range of entertainment activities planned ahead of the game and during half-time.

Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon, Motaung said the club was also working with stadium management to improve the match-day experience, particularly around access and transport.

“We have planned some activities for our supporters. People must come early, and we continue to put out that messaging: please come early,” Motaung said.

She pointed to the previous derby hosted by Chiefs as an example of how arriving early can make a difference.

“People came early and the derby started on time. So people did listen, and I’d like to thank the supporters for that. We’d like to ask you to do the same again. Remember those positive experiences we had from that game,” she said.

Motaung also acknowledged ongoing work with stadium management and service providers to address access challenges experienced by supporters.

She said the club’s focus was not simply on getting fans into the stadium, but on ensuring that the entire match-day experience was enjoyable.

“It’s not just about money. It’s about the experience that we want them to have, and we want them to be able to go home and speak about it when they come to you again,” she said.

Entertainment before kick-off

Supporters who arrive early will have plenty to keep them occupied before the match.

Artists including T-Money Express and Scott Maphuma are expected to perform before the game and during half-time.

Motaung said the entertainment was part of the club’s effort to create a memorable experience for supporters beyond the football itself.

“You’re not going to be bored in your seats. There’s time to pass at the stadium while people come in. Come early, be comfortable and get your drinks rather than rush in, because that’s where the problems arise,” she said.

With August being Women’s Month, Motaung also encouraged families and women to attend the match.

The club will have a family zone, a feature introduced several years ago through a partnership between Chiefs and stadium management.

“We’d love to see the ladies in the stadium. We really want to see the families come through,” she said.

Chiefs encourage supporters to use public transport

Transport is another key part of the club’s match-day message.

Motaung encouraged supporters to make use of available public transport options, including the Gautrain and Rea Vaya, saying this would help reduce congestion around the stadium precinct.

She said the club was also working on parking arrangements, including a Toyota-sponsored parking zone.

“But I think the big point is to keep as few vehicles in the stadium precinct as possible. If we can achieve that, the experience will be better for everybody. Traffic will be better and it will be a process that flows better,” she said.

Motaung said Chiefs were looking forward to welcoming their supporters for what is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the season.

“We’re excited to see our supporters. We’re excited to host and we’re excited to continue this journey with our supporters as we have set a plan for the season,” she said.

The Chiefs-Sundowns clash kicks off at 15h00 on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
