Justin Clarke Survives Early Storm to Flatten Abdoulaye Kane in PFL Thriller

In a clash that defined the “never say die” spirit of South African MMA, local hero Justin Clarke overcame a near-disastrous start to secure a stunning first-round knockout.

PRETORIA — The Professional Fighters League (PFL) made a thunderous debut at the SunBet Arena on Saturday night, but no moment captured the raw intensity of the evening quite like the heavyweight co-main event.

In a clash that defined the “never say die” spirit of South African MMA, local hero Justin Clarke overcame a near-disastrous start to secure a stunning first-round knockout over Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane.

The atmosphere in Pretoria was electric as the heavyweights made their walks, and the action inside the cage immediately lived up to the hype.

A Firefight in the Pocket

From the opening bell, Kane looked to spoil the homecoming. The Senegalese powerhouse found his range early, catching Clarke with a devastating combination that sent shockwaves through the arena.

For a moment, it appeared the night would end early for the “hometown hero,” as Clarke was left bloodied and visibly wobbling on shaky legs under the pressure of Kane’s barrage.

However, displaying the resilience that has become his trademark, Clarke refused to go down. Biting down on his gumshield, he braved the storm and stayed in the pocket.

As Kane moved in to capitalise on the damage, Clarke found the opening he needed. He uncorked a thunderous counter right hand that connected flush, instantly turning the tide and sending the Senegalese giant crashing to the canvas.

The referee stepped in at 2:12 of the first round, awarding Clarke the TKO victory and sending the SunBet Arena into a state of absolute delirium.

Ndebele Dominates Main Event; Welterweight Semi-Finals Set

The heavyweight drama was followed by a tactical masterclass in the bantamweight main event. South Africa’s Nkosi Ndebele, the “King of Many Nations,” outpointed Italy’s Michele Clemente in an all-time classic.

Despite relentless pressure from the “Arrow,” Ndebele’s sharp counters and superior precision earned him a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards (30-27 across the board).

The night also solidified the brackets for the high-stakes Welterweight Tournament:

  • Nigeria’s David Samuel maintained his undefeated record (6-0), submitting Abdelrahman Mohammad with a clinical rear-naked choke after a display of sharp boxing.
  • Guinea-Bissau’s Rivaldo Pereira provided the ultimate underdog story, stepping in as a late replacement on just 24 hours’ notice to stop Kunle Lawal with a punishing body shot and elbows.
  • The Matchup: Samuel and Pereira are now scheduled to meet in a semi-final clash of finishers later this year.

On the other side of the bracket, Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança and South Africa’s Peace Nguphane both earned their spots in the semi-finals with impressive victories over Emilios Dassi and Yabna N’Tchala, respectively.
