FIFA Appoints Star-Studded Technical Study Group for Club World Cup 2025

As anticipation builds for the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ in the United States, FIFA has unveiled a world-class Technical Study Group (TSG) to provide advanced match analysis and shape the future of the game.
Led by Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, the group brings together football minds from across the globe, blending legendary players, accomplished coaches, and technical analysts. Their mandate? To break down tactical trends, spotlight innovation, and enhance global understanding of the sport in real-time during the tournament.

“We want to describe, analyse and interpret what is happening on the pitch,” Wenger said. “And we aim to inform both technical experts and fans, not months later, but during the tournament itself.”
Who’s on the Team?
The FIFA TSG includes:
- Arsène Wenger (France) – Former Arsenal and Monaco manager, now head of FIFA’s global football development.
- Esteban Cambiasso (Argentina) – Former Inter Milan star and UEFA Champions League winner.
- Aliou Cissé (Senegal) – 2022 AFCON-winning coach, now leading Libya’s national team.
- Tobin Heath (USA) – Two-time Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist.
- Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany) – World Cup-winning striker and former national team coach.
- Roberto Martínez (Spain) – Former Belgium and current Portugal coach, recently crowned UEFA Nations League winner.
- Gilberto Silva (Brazil) – 2002 World Cup champion and former Arsenal Invincible.
- Pascal Zuberbühler (Switzerland) – Former Swiss national goalkeeper, now FIFA Senior Football Expert.
The TSG will watch every match, identify emerging tactical patterns, and publish their insights on the FIFA Training Centre. Their work is backed by FIFA’s Football Performance Insights team, which provides detailed data and metrics for deeper analysis.
Beyond match trends, the group also explores the evolution of football tactics, their implications for coaching education, and their long-term impact on talent development.
“It’s about balancing data with expert insight,” Wenger explained. “We’re collecting more information than ever before, but we’re also telling the story of football as it happens.”

This is the first time FIFA is rolling out real-time technical analysis at this scale for a club tournament. By delivering tactical breakdowns during the competition, FIFA hopes to foster a deeper connection between fans, coaches, and the global football community.
The TSG will also be responsible for selecting the tournament’s individual awards—including Player of the Tournament and the Fair Play Award.
For African coaches, analysts, and fans, this initiative presents a unique opportunity to access elite football intelligence, free and accessible via the FIFA Training Centre, and apply it at local and national levels.
