Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for a fierce selection showdown as head coach Eric Chelle unveiled a massive 54-man preliminary squad for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2025, set to ignite in Morocco from December 21. The Franco-Malian tactician has cast his net wide, blending battle-tested stars, injury-hit returnees, and a surge of hungry newcomers to forge a squad hungry for continental domination after last year’s runner-up heartbreak in the Ivory Coast.

With CAF rules demanding a trim to 28 players before kickoff, Chelle faces his toughest task yet: sifting through one of Nigeria’s largest-ever provisional lists, six goalkeepers, 13 defenders, 12 midfielders, and a staggering 23 forwards.

The Super Eagles, chasing their first title since 2013, land in Group D against Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, where depth could prove decisive in a tournament laced with pressure post their World Cup qualification flop.​
