Arsenal Secure Star Striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting in Landmark Transfer

LONDON, July 26, 2025 — Arsenal have completed the major signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, marking one of the Premier League’s most significant transfer moves this summer.

The 27-year-old joins the Gunners on a five-year contract, instantly raising expectations for a club desperate to end its title drought after three consecutive second-place league finishes.

His 2024/25 season was particularly impressive, scoring 54 goals in 52 games and notching a memorable Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City. His firepower was instrumental in Sporting’s league and Portuguese Cup double.

The striker previously had a brief stint at Brighton & Hove Albion and has established himself as a key player for the Swedish national team.

Gyokeres becomes Arsenal’s fifth signing of the close season, following the arrivals of winger Noni Madueke, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, and midfielders Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi. He is expected to immediately join the squad’s preseason tour in Asia and will wear the iconic number 14 shirt, once donned by club legend Thierry Henry.
